After only two weeks my shoes fit so comfortably! Thank you!
]]>I tried on my brown New Mexicans as soon as they arrived, and I burst into tears of joy!
You see, I grew up in Ithaca, and although you weren’t making shoes when I lived there, I found a pair of olive Middle English in the early ‘90s in a little store in Colchester, Vermont. I loved that they were crafted near where I grew up. I wore them and loved them for a few years…they were my all-time favorite shoes. Somehow we were parted, I was heartbroken and thus began my search for the perfect shoe.
I became a shoe addict because of my unfulfilled quest. I bought pair after pair, trying to match the affinity I had for my lost Middle English shoes. I now have 78 pairs of shoes (some VERY expensive); not one pair has measured up to my beloved Aurora Shoes. Frustrated from the unrequited search, a few weeks ago I Googled “handmade shoes” and with great joy and relief, discovered that your company is still in business! I promptly ordered the New Mexicans.
Now I feel like donating my shoe collection to charity and buying a few styles and colors of Aurora Shoes. I no longer feel incomplete in the shoe realm, and I am already planning the order in which I will build my new collection.
I am finally reunited with the shoes of my dreams! Literally!
Love,

]]>About four years ago I actually spent a LOT of time and money getting several pairs of shoes custom made for me! Their factory is located an hour away in Burbank, California so they measured my feet carefully, helped me select leathers for the two pairs of boots, one pr of oxfords, and one pr of flats that I purchased. These are pricey shoes — you may know of them. Together, the four pairs cost over $1500. When I received them: One pair of boots actually had actual holes in the leather … first time I received them, as well as the second time. The third time I received the reworked pair, one of the straps for the buckles was nearly falling apart — I returned them, and they initially wanted to charge me a “restocking” fee. The other pair of boots didn’t close all the way across my instep — not the first time nor the second time when they supposedly remade them. Regardless, I kept them and after two wearings, two of the elastic closures came unstitched — I glued them back on. I sold the incredibly stiff and uncomfortable oxfords, but I thought that at least the flats had no problems. Wrong! I took the never-worn pair on a trip to Europe and only then realized that the back seam on one of the shoes was only partially stitched. Wearable but somewhat appalling for a pair of shoes costing more than $250.
I will never buy another pair of shoes from anyone other than Aurora Shoes. Why should I? The styles suit me, the fit is fabulous, the quality is miraculous, and the price is very, very reasonable! (see above!)
Thank you for carrying on the tradition. I am only sorry that I needed to wait until this point in my life to find you.

]]>...a simple, incredibly sincere thank you...
I received my second pair of Aurora Shoes yesterday and my heart could not be happier. I've been following your company for years, swooning over the beauty of your craft and the quality that is transparent in your work. I purchased my first pair of Aurora Shoe Co shoes just after my daughter's birth three years ago. The funny part of the story: I wouldn't allow myself to purchase a new pair, so I scoured the internet until I found a seller on Etsy selling a used pair of New Mexican size 5.5 With a very small foot, and an even smaller budget, I never thought I'd fall in love with the shoes...but I did.
I've worn them to the ground (literally), and only now, three years later, do I realize that the pair of used sandals I purchased were probably years old before they found my hands.
I ordered the Chinese style directly from you and prepared myself to wait weeks for their arrival...being pleasantly surprised by how quickly they were on my doorstep. And goodness, I am blown away by them! Truly. Already being a fan, I was amazed by how wonderful these "new" shoes felt compared to my "old" ones...even more comfortable than the New Mexican style I've worn relentlessly.
There is something infinitely magical about looking down at my feet meeting the earth and knowing the care and intention that were set into the construction of these shoes. Thank you. I've now got Middle English and North Pacific on my wish list--I'll be purchasing again very soon!
Sending the very best wishes and much appreciation to the entire team at Aurora Shoe Company.
Best,

]]>The shoes are beyond comfortable! I could tell from the first step they would be my favorites.
Here they are, worn out of the shop at Dories in Aurora.
Your company has a superb product, made here in America. It was a delight to support the craftsmanship, design and business you have.

My daughters are already coveting my new shoes. My 17 year old has decided that she'll want a pair for a high school graduation present next year, and my 11 year old can hardly wait for her feet to stop growing...she'd love a pair now! As for me, I can see myself getting a 2nd pair, perhaps for Christmas...this time a Middle English pair!
Thank you so very much. I absolutely love them. :)

Thank you for the quick turnaround on my new boots. They were just as promised and getting lots of compliments.
And I'm serious- wore the shoes into the coffee shop today and one woman stopped me, and I shared a quiet 'love those shoes' wink-smile-thumbs up with another.
I look forward to many comfortable years of wear.
Warm regards,

Good Morning,
I grew up in Ithaca and my dad, Peter Levatich, was an architect in the area. But even more personally and closer to his heart, he was a wood worker. When I was about 8 or 9, my parents bought a plot of forest land and my dad began managing his forest for veneer quality timber. In the careful thinning of the less desirable trees, he was able to save sections of Cherry and Ash and Walnut for woodworking which he learned through reading books on the craft. His pieces are unadorned and elegant, inspired by Danish and Shaker traditions. Many of his pieces – coffee tables, single hanging wall cabinets, benches – maintain the natural beauty of the tree it was sawn from, inspired by the furniture maker George Nakashima. I am certainly biased, but I think many would agree they are gorgeous. But I think most importantly, they are built with every aspect of their user carefully considered. I made a coffee table with him one summer and in its designing process we had conversations about the average height of a person’s knees, how the table’s height and breadth look in a room, and how the table must be smooth along the underside of the edges to make it most comfortable to move. These details were very important to him – the pieces all needed to be functional, elegant, unassuming and comfortable in the space. My dad made a bed frame for my husband and my wedding made from Ash with a Walnut head board. The thing must weigh half a ton and is as sturdy as the tree it was sawn from, yet it can all be taken apart into pieces that can be transported in a 1986 Honda hatchback! Form and Function and beauty.
I am telling you this story, because there are few crafts people I know who are able to so perfectly marry all these important elements – simplistic elegance and function something that feels so comfortable to your soul – and that came to mind to me last night when I was slipping on my Aurora Shoes to go to book club. I just wanted to take some time to express my gratitude to you and appreciation of your craft and thank you for making something that feels so much like home to my feet and my eyes.
