Meet the Neighbors: Second Story Rose

At the Aurora Shoe Company, we passionately support small business and handmade and local goods. As a visitor of our blog, we thought that you might feel the same way. In our Meet the Neighbors series we're featuring businesses and people who reflect our own values and whom we feel lucky to call neighbors and friends.

We live and work in a teensy little town, so every time something more...

Classic Styling and our Chinese Style

One of our most versatile styles for women, the Chinese is based on a Chinese dance slipper.  Featuring a rounded toe, adjustable strap, and minimal stitching, this shoe is as stylish as it is comfortable.  When I'm heading out the door and want to look a little bit more put together, I slip these on knowing that I can do anything and go anywhere without giving my feet a second thought.

These...

Lake Views

We're surrounded by beauty here in Aurora.  I think we all spend as much time as possible on or near the lake all summer, but mild winter days can be pretty great, too.  The geese were making lots of noise and the waves were calmly rolling in while we took a few photos this morning.

Hot coffee was a nice treat after an hour spent in the cold. Our Auroras have stayed pretty local this year. Where...

Brown or Olive?

It can be hard to tell the difference between our brown and olive leather online.  To be honest, in certain lighting it can be hard to tell in person, too.  Where brown is a warm color, olive is cool.  It's the color of tree bark, and wet driftwood, very natural.  These photos feature our Middle English in Oliveand they're the perfect neutral color for someone with an olive skin tone. Handmade Shoes for (big) Kids

The other day my oldest son and I stopped in to see Uncle Dave at the shop.  He took a short break to chat with us and then one thing led to another, and we walked out the door with the smallest pair of Aurora Shoes I've ever seen (Women's 5 C) walking under the happiest face I'd seen that day.

And what did my little (big) boy do when I asked him to model these pristine shoes? He did what little...

Summer Has Arrived in Aurora

I don't know if there's anything more relaxing than a summer night on the lake with a small camp fire and a couple of acoustic instruments making soft music in perfect harmony. Photo shoots are always fun, but this one was a real treat. Jordan and Stephanie brought their guitar and mandolin along and the young (and recently married!) couple made sweet music while I snapped away. Here are a few...

Ithaca Farmers Market

One Mother's Day weekend, three old friends, two outfit changes, a bunch of laughs, and plenty of sunshine combined to make a nice little time at the Ithaca Farmers Market.

Where are your Auroras taking YOU?

Ithaca Farmers Market

On Location at Ledyard Farms

Today was the perfect day to get out into the snow and take a few photos.  Carrie and I met up at Ledyard Farms where we were able to meet Ledyard's Tiger Lily, a 4-year-old Morgan show horse. The farm is one of our favorite spots for picking up local eggs, lamb and beef.  It also happens to be really pretty in the snow...

Shoe LOVE in 3 Cities

Talk about travelling shoes - Maki Aruga, who is from Japan and lives in NYC, sent us these photos from a series she did on Robert Indiana's LOVE monument.  Thank you, Maki!

I went to Japan to see my family in mid Oct. This time I also visited Taipei in Taiwan with my friend. The three-city photos that I want to show you are Robert Indiana's LOVE Monument with my lovely Aurora Shoes in Tokyo and...

ASC in Ecuador and a Shoe Shine Warning (With a Happy Ending)

Hi!

I took the shoes I ordered a couple months ago (West Indian in Navy) with me on a month long backpacking trip to Ecuador. They did wonderfully: supporting me through hours of sightseeing. Despite my rheumatoid arthritis, I never had much joint trouble when I was wearing my Auroras: I'm now a customer for life! I took a photo of the shoes in Quito with your fun blog feature in mind: they're on...

Aurora Shoes in Lesotho

Leslie recently shared this photo from her daughter, Carrie's time spent in Lesotho, while serving in the Peace Corps.  Carrie (and her Aurora Shoes) spent three years in Qucha's Nek, Losotho.  She took this photo in the town of Roma.

To the good people at Aurora Shoe Company,

I'm happy to report that my New Chinese shoes enjoyed a trip to India! I thought I would share a couple of photos of the shoes in action. The first, taking a drawing break at the Ellora Caves, and the second, climbing up to Leh Palace at roughly 11,500 feet in the magical city of Leh. The Vibram soles came in handy!

My thanks for a...

A Letter Worth Sharing

Dave shared this sweet message on our Facebook page today and I wanted to share it here as well.  These are the kinds of letters that reaffirm everything we do.  Thank you to Julie, and everyone else who takes a moment to write.  We appreciate letters like this so much.

Hi there -

I bought a pair of your New Chinese shoes back in 1995 and I am wearing them right now! :) They still look and feel...

Leather Sandals, 16 Years Later...

Jessica S. shared this photo and message with us.

I got these sandals as a graduation present... in 1996 (eek). I love these shoes & they're the only pair of shoes that have stuck by me in life. I finally admitted that it was time for a new pair to get me through th next 16 years. I'm not sure what to do with the old ones though - maybe I'll bronze them or pass them down to my grandchildren some...

Aurora Shoes in Ireland

We love sharing photos of our many pairs of shoes and their worldly adventures.  Here's our latest email from a happy customer who traveled to Ireland in Auroras.  I love the photos and wish that I could be transported to that beautiful garden right now.  A pint of Guinness wouldn't be half bad either...

I've been loving my shoes, and even taking pictures of them! I'm from Salt Lake City, and we...

10 Year Old Shoes

There was a lot of leg lifting at Squam.  Everyone wanted to see the shoes on somebody and not just sitting on a shelf.  Thank goodness for leggings, because from behind our table, the only way to show mine off was to lift my foot up, dress and all.  I was wearing these, my warm weather favorites.

I bought these shoes in 2002 when I was waitressing and needed a pair of comfortable black shoes to...

Squam Art Fair

My mom and I left on Friday afternoon and drove the seven hours north and east to Holderness, New Hampshire where the Squam Art Workshopsare held. We arrived in darkness and woke up on Saturday to the most beautiful day. The sun was shining, the air was warm, and the scenery was beautiful - winding roads, huge boulders, and the smell of pine in the air. I found myself feeling more relaxed than I...

Aurora Shoes in Laos

We recently received this photo and message from Gary M. who discovered our shoes at Neighbour in Vancouver.   Gary said:

I live in Europe and love a pair of Camper boots that I've worn pretty much around the world. I travel quite a bit on business, often to odd places, and am pretty fussy about what i take with me. Especially shoes. They need to be functional and comfortable and able to stand up...
